Meet Flowers by Emma & Tom
Who: Emma
Where are you based? Barossa Valley Ranges
A little history: Emma is a florist and has been growing and harvesting native flowers since 2019. We are a family of creative people who love sharing things with others. They also make beautiful jewellery, stationary and accessories.
What products do you sell? We only sell sustainable farmed and foraged native flowers and foliage. Bunches, posies in upcycled jars and wreaths in November.
How did you come to be a producer? I used to be a full time florist. missing the creative work with nature, I was always looking for opportunities to forage and fossick. A group of friends with farms that have native flowering plants, established by market gardeners in years gone by, inspired the idea of having a market stall filled with flowers from a collective of farms with plants and trees otherwise overlooked. I love the approach of using what you already have.
Who encouraged you to become a stallholder? We were flooded with support and encouragement from many friends and family.
Who/what inspires you? Many years ago Tom and I had a veggie stall at the Barossa Farmers Market, selling our winter veggies. We’d always hoped we would be able to return as we loved the Saturday morning conversations over the trestle.
Do you have a favourite way of utilising your products that you could share with us? Our flowers make great dried arrangements. We only include native flowers and foliage, which really helps our bunches keep their shape and most of their colour. Simply let them dry, you don’t even need to hang them upside down!
Could you share something interesting about your business and products? We don’t use any sprays, chemicals or synthetic fertilisers on any of our plants.
What is your favourite story from a customer about how they use your products? I absolutely love and cherish my return customers and stallholders who return and gift their used jars for my posies.
What advice do you share with your customers about your products? Flower care mostly, how to get the best life from their flowers and how to dry them for an everlasting bunch.
