The family business is run by Mike and Nancy and their daughter Leila. They have been breeding deer for over 30 years and are renowned for their breeding program. Their herd have 40 acres in Birdwood on which to roam, giving them the best quality of life possible.
Birdwood Venison provides market visitors with fresh venison meat, gluten-free sausages, pies and small goods (e.g. bresaola, liverwurst, chorizo and so much more). They even have splint-free dog chews to keep your pups happy.

Where are you based? Birdwood
A little history: Mike and Nancy were originally known as the Deer Farm, and have been raising European Fallow Deer for stud since 1987. Birdwood Venison came about as a way of ethically managing their herd. Their deer live a good life at the ‘deer farm’, where every aspect of their breeding is as stress free as possible.
What products do you sell? Venison, sausages, mettwurst, pies, venison jerky and antlers for dogs to chew.
What are your most popular products/produce? Our sausages, pies and antler dog chews.
How did you come to be a farmer and/or producer? It was a long term dream to have a paddock speckled with beautiful fallow deer.
Who encouraged and supported you to take the leap to start your business?
Our family, we decided to cut out the middle man.

What are you personally most well-known for?
Nancy’s (mum’s) venison pies always sell out!
How do you celebrate your success?
A coffee and an Eleni’s cardamom bun!

Definitely, slow cooked rolled venison shoulder with delicious gravy!
