Michele brings Italian street food to the Barossa Farmers Market fortnightly. Based in Nuriootpa, his authentic Italian dishes include homemade gnocchi in a rich tomato sauce, topped with cheese, arancini filled with pumpkin or mushroom and lasagne with Bolognese sauce. If you like sweet treats he also has Cannoli filled with chocolate or custard and Tiramisu.

Where are you based? Nuriootpa
A little history: Established in 2022, I am Italian and a chef. I was missing a taste of my mothers and grandmothers cooking so I decided to recreate a taste of home and what’s better than sharing our love of the simplicity of homemade Italian food!
What products do you sell? Italian street food – arancini balls, lasagne (v option.), tiramisu, cannoli, cantucci biscuits and gnocchi.
What are your most popular products? Arancini balls and cannoli
How did you come to be a producer? We are local and after visiting the market, we thought we could share our food and started our business.
Who encouraged and supported you to take the leap to start your business? My partner
Who encouraged you to become a stallholder? My partner, they are very supportive
Who/what inspires you? My family recipes, my grandmother and also my mom
What are you personally most well known for? My bubbly, positive, Italian personality.
How do you celebrate your success? By creating more ideas to achieve more success.
Do you have a favourite recipe that you could share with us? No, they are my families recipes!
Could you share something interesting about your business and products? Yes, it’s 100% homemade with a lot of love
What is your favourite story from a customer about how they use your products? One of our customers asked us to provide some of our products for a birthday party, for us it was important because it gives us more opportunities to share our products with a different audience.
What advice do you share with your customers about your products? I try to show the Italian culture, how my grandmother or mother used to make these dishes and try to inspire how they can use them in different ways.
